Gardeners that manage their own profile

6 businesses have claimed their GotAPal listing, so the details come from them rather than public records. GotAPal still doesn't vet them.

What to agree with a gardener

Regular visits

Agree what each visit covers, such as mowing, edging, weeding and hedge trimming, how long they stay and how often they come through the year.

Green waste

Ask whether they take the cuttings away, and if they do, whether that costs extra. Anyone carrying waste for you as a business should be a registered waste carrier.

Clearances and bigger jobs

For an overgrown garden, ask for a fixed price for the whole job. For patios, fencing or landscaping, you may want a landscaper instead.

How to check a gardener yourself

GotAPal lists businesses from public records and does not check or vet them. Before you hire, do these checks yourself. They take a few minutes.

  • Ask exactly what each visit includes, and what costs extra, before the first visit.
  • Agree how often the gardener comes, what happens if a visit is missed, and how much notice either of you gives to stop.
  • Ask for their public liability insurance certificate and check the dates on it.
  • Agree how and when you pay, and ask for a receipt or invoice each time.
  • If the gardener trades as a limited company, look it up on Companies House: check it is active and the name matches.

Gardeners: common questions

How do I find a gardener near me?

Pick your town from the list on this page, or search by postcode, to see gardeners listed near you. Open a profile to see how to contact them. Or post your job free and we'll pass it to listed gardeners near you.

Is a gardener the same as a landscaper?

Not quite. A gardener usually looks after an existing garden; a landscaper designs and builds new features such as patios, paths and fencing. Many do both.

Does GotAPal check the gardeners it lists?

No. GotAPal lists businesses from public records and does not vet them. Ask for proof of insurance, check a limited company on Companies House, and agree what is included before the first visit.

Is GotAPal free to use?

Yes. Searching, contacting gardeners and posting a job are free for you, and gardeners pay no lead fees or commission. The only paid option is Top Pal featured placement, which is always labelled Featured.
